Get out this weekend and make the most of the warm weather with a good hike – I am! The San Diego area is full of amazing hikes with gorgeous views. Whether you’re going for the exercise or the chance to clear your mind of everything going on during the week, don’t pass on Mother Nature this weekend.
Though these ratings may not be the end-all for all you with wanderlust, REI and Modern Hiker have suggestions for great ways to get out and experience the most of the scenery around San Diego County. From Batiquitos Lagoon Trail, an easy hike accessible for all around the Batiquitos Lagoon Ecological Reserve up in Carlsbad, to Three Sisters Falls, an intermediate to difficult hike that pays off in providing stunning waterfall views (which is also dog-friendly), you’ll have plenty of ways to fill your need for nature.
Some of your other options include:
- Cowles Mountain Backside Loop (3-mile round-trip | Intermediate)
- Cuyamaca Peak (5.4-mile hike | Intermediate)
- Blue Sky Ecological Reserve (5-mile hike| Easy/Intermediate)
- Potato Chip Rock (7.1-mile hike | Intermediate/Difficult)
- Big Laguna Trail (10-mile hike | Difficult)
It goes without saying, but always remember to pack enough water and snack bars for your trip, especially with any forecasts for high heat. Also, try to avoid draining your energy hiking during peak sun; especially for those hiking with your four-legged companions.
