Winter wonderlands, dinosaurs, brew festivals, runs, and exciting biking events await you this weekend so that you can make the most of where you love to live.

Friday, January 10th

Skate and Sled Away

Just because the holidays are over does not mean that the winter fun is passed! Poway Community Park is welcoming snow, sledding, s’more roasting, ice skating, music, and more this weekend from Friday (5 – 9 pm) through Saturday (3:30 – 8:30 pm). Calling all prehistoric explorers! Get ready for one of the biggest dinosaur events in the US down at the Del Mar Fairgrounds from Friday through Sunday. Explorers beware that dinos from the Cretaceous up through the Triassic Period will be visiting the San Diego during this timewarp event! Life-size dinos, including raptors, megalodons, giant ancient sea turtles, and more will be stampeding in for Jurrasic Quest. Do not miss your chance to interact with baby dinosaurs and watch these beasts walk through the crowds before they return to extinction! All that Sparkles is Not Always Gold

Gemstones and jewels and beads, oh my! Having begun in 1989, the Gem Faire is one of the biggest gemstone and jewelry shows and marketplaces in the US today. Joining Jurassic Quest at the Del Mar Fairgrounds, this event will feature showcases of rare stones and fossils, crafts by jewelry makers, repair professionals to restore your beloved heirlooms, and educational sessions. Saturday, January 11th

Brews and Foods

Not yet sated with all of the brew fests and tasting celebrations over the last weeks? Well, look no further than the San Diego Brew Fest coming to Preble Field in Liberty Station this Saturday. From 12 pm to 4 pm this intro into the weekend will be featuring 150 beers from 70 breweries and a selection of tasty food from local food trucks. Tickets range from $45 for general admission (access from 1 – 4 pm) to $60 (full 12 – 4 pm access and special beer pours). Runs and Walks for Good Causes

Human Trafficking Awareness Walk

Help bolster support for causes like this event to bring awareness of the root causes, those affected by, and how to stop the global scourge that is human trafficking. Featured speakers will help in kicking off this 1-mile free-to-attend march, which will extend from the Vista Library through Downtown Vista and back. Though you can make your own signs, there will be additional signs and water available to attendees as they march to help shine light on this issue, while promoting ways through which we can improve community safety and unity. Don’t Run from your Resolutions!

Looking for some motivation to kick off your New Year’s resolution? Look no further than the San Diego Resolution Run this Saturday offering 5K/10K/half-marathon run/walks, a youth race, and stroller run at Tecolote Shores Park. Time is running out to register for the races and grab your bib and shirt, so make sure to get your name down today before registration closes!

Pedal Power!

Get your bikes out and get ready to ride as Downtown Encinitas and the South Coast Highway become a self-powered transport thoroughfare this Sunday. Cyclovia Encinitas will welcome all those interested in riding their bikes, rollerblading, and even unicycling to explore; maybe you’ll even see a whale swimming by as you bike along the shoreline! Join others in taking in the beautiful weather and enjoy other bike-themed activities, informational sessions, and a bike decorating station for those looking for a little more pizzaz on their beach cruiser.
